Lane County Public Health advises EVERYONE to prepare for the heatwave coming by the end of the week. Temperatures in the 100s on Friday and Saturday and possibly lasting well into next week (note: even the coast is expected to be unusually hot). Actions you can take now: Make plans to be somewhere cool, especially in the afternoons and into early evening when it’s hottest; Hang heat-reflecting curtains or blinds on windows; Stock up on cooling foods and drinks – have extra to share; Ask your friends & neighbors if they have air conditioning or need support – people most vulnerable to this heat are:  people over 65 and under 4 years old, those on certain medications and/or with preexisting conditions, those working outdoors, and people without access to a reliable source of cooling and/or hydration; Do laundry and other electricity-dependent activities ahead of the heatwave and think of other ways you can reduce demand on the electric grid (like unplugging unnecessary electronic devices); Spread the word to raise awareness about the signs of heat illness and the importance of taking precautions. Heat Stroke or Heat Exhaustion? Heat exhaustion symptoms include feeling faint or dizzy, excessive sweating, cool, pale, clammy skin, nausea, rapid weak pulse, and muscle cramps. With heat exhaustion, get to a cooler air conditioned place and drink water. Heat Stroke symptoms include throbbing headache, no sweting, Body temp above 103 degrees, red hot dry skin, nausea or vomiting, rapid strong pulse, may lose consciousness. Call 911 if you or someone you know may be having a heat stroke.

City Council Meeting Recap July 8th, 2024
Public Forum There was no public wishing to comment. Mayor’s Report Mayor Stram thanked the Creswell Chamber of Commerce, deputies, Airport Manager Shelley Humble and the EAA, New Hope Baptist Church, Church of Christ, volunteers, and citizens for a great 4th of July. Consent Calendar Minutes were referred back to staff for correction.
LCSO Service Report Sergeant Speldrich was off on light duty last week so he missed the 4th of July festivities. Calls for service are down and vehicle and person crimes are down. There were 9 firework calls. Councilor Osborn inquired whether there has been any change in the homeless population. Sergeant Speldrich responded that the number is essentially the same along with their other issues adhering to the 72 hour rule. There have been a few homeless persons who have come to Creswell looking for a free wagon to live in but they moved on. Councilor Costilla asked if any citations were issued on the fireworks calls and was told that no citations were issued. Councilor Holt asked whether any fires were reported and there were not. Councilor Smith asked if there was any damage on the 4th and Sergeant Speldrich responded that there was not.
Councilor Smith moved to approve the Contract for the Chip Seal Project of North 2nd Street, Creswood Drive, and Gilfry Avenue. Councilor Costilla seconded the motion. The motion passed 6-0. Councilor Kent moved to approve the Contract for the Airport Water Line Project. The motion was seconded by Councilor Osborn. The motion passed 6-0. Mayor Stram closed the meeting at 6:55 pm. Council Action Items Adjournment
