Winterize your ride. Pack a winter safety kit. Include first aid kit, water/food, warm coat, blanket, salt, flashlight/batteries, ice scraper, jumper cables, cell phone charger, shovel. Gas up. Maintain at least 1/2 tank of gas at all times to avoid condensation forming in fuel tank and also to keep warm if you become stranded. Install winter tires. Stopping and handling can be improved with winter or snow tires. Always make sure tires have adequate tread. Mechanic Check. Have mechanic check battery, antifreeze, wipers, ignition, thermostat, lights, exhaust, heater, brakes, oil. Install winter wipers. Winter wipers have a protective rubber layer so they keep working in ice and snow. Make sure to fill up with winter wiper fluid as well.
